In our opinion, there’s just not enough dancing involved in being a state employee these days. Seriously, would it kill the Department of Health and Human Services to give in to our weekly email blast advocating for Macarena Mondays?
Tonight is everyone’s chance to bust loose and join the West Coast swing dance classes with Anne Fleming at the Howard Rec Center (99 Pleasant St., across from the Centennial Inn). Anyone can participate for $15, but state employees get $5 off! You’ll have to pay full price if anyone spots the white man overbite, though.
Beginner group classes are at 7 p.m., followed by intermediate classes at 8 p.m. and open dance practice until 11 p.m.
For more information on the classes, call 545-5186.

It’s all initials all the time at Gibson’s Bookstore tonight for the Poetry Society of New Hampshire’s monthly gathering and open mic night. Abbreviated first names rule the day as W.E. Butts and S. Stephanie headline the poetry reading, which is followed by the open mic portion of the night. In keeping with the evening’s apparent theme, we recommend signing up as either I.B. Freestyling or U.R. Mistaken. The poetry reading begins at 7 p.m.

If it’s a journey you’re after, try driving down Loudon Road at 5 p.m.! Or, you could join Sandy Mortimer for her travelogue, “Discovering the Dutch” as part of the Walker Lecture Series, tonight at 7:30 at the Audi. We don’t give an Amsterdam what else you might be doing; this is your chance to stretch your brain and learn about nine of the 12 provinces in the Netherlands. Our favorite is Quebec.
