N.H. News Roundup: Birch syrup, starting a garden and long ski season

Today’s column is going to be dedicated to fake news! April Fool – no it isn’t. But there’s plenty going on in the state, including several stories involving the food industry.
New Hampshire doesn’t really have a staple when it comes to food. People travel far and wide for Maine lobster. The answer here could be in birch trees, though. Syrup is being made from the state tree, and it could be the unique taste the state has been waiting for.
In the restaurant industry, Tom Boucher, owner the T-Bones Great American Eatery locales and CEO-owner of Great New Hampshire Restaurants Inc., testified before a Congressional subcommittee about the impacts of Obama’s health care overhaul on behalf of the National Restaurant Association.
