The Insiders: Bravo for volunteers!

It’s a whole new world out there now, eh Concord? As the last vestiges of winter melt away, nothing but a few traces of filthy, road dirt-infused snow remain to remind us of that stark season (spoiler alert). With the change of seasons comes rebirth and regrowth; why not turn over a new (freshly-bloomed) leaf? Bravo Boutique hosts the Concord Contemporary Club’s event “Bravo For Volunteers” tonight. Come for the free fashion show; stay to find out how you can get involved with the club. The ladies at the CCC volunteer or raise money for the SPCA, local food pantries, domestic violence shelters and much more (perhaps you read about them in the March 5 Insider). At the very least, you’ll get a look at designer AJ Silva’s award-winning dresses – as seen on TV! The event starts at 7 p.m. at Bravo, 97 N. Main St. For more information, visit the Concord Contemporary Club on Facebook.

Elsewhere, The Island President plays at Red River Theatres at 6:30 p.m. The film (98 percent fresh on Rotten Tomatoes) deals with the efforts of then-Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed as he fights to curb climate change. The stakes? His entire country could be wiped from the map if the world’s waters rise. For more information, visit redrivertheatres.org.

Finally, some corrections to last week’s columns. Contrary to what we reported, Don Draper is not actually a real guy. He is a character on the AMC television program Mad Men, and he certainly didn’t come up with the Giant Glass jingle. We made a typo in our “Fresh Springtime Apple Pie” recipe; old iPods thrown in a blender should not be substituted for the apple filling. And, Kim Jong Un is actually the supreme leader of North Korea, not the new middle reliever out of the Arizona Diamondbacks bullpen, as we previously reported.
