Man charged with breaking into Concord home, touching 11-year-old as she slept
A Concord man with a history of exposing himself and prowling has been arrested on charges he broke into a Concord home early yesterday morning and touched a sleeping 11-year-old girl sexually.
David Mandigo, 42, is being held at Merrimack County jail on two charges: burglary and felonious sexual assault. Lt. Timothy O’Malley said he could not elaborate on the sexual assault charge because the investigation is ongoing. He said only that the girl did not suffer a physical injury and that the police believe she was asleep at the time.
The police were called to a home at the corner of North State and Beacon streets about 3:45 a.m. yesterday after a woman awoke to find a man she didn’t know standing in her daughter’s bedroom, O’Malley said. The police believe he got into the home through an unlocked window.
The woman told the police she was awoken by the sound of footsteps. She got up to investigate and confronted the man when she saw him in her daughter’s bedroom, O’Malley said. When she did, the man fled on foot.
The woman was able to give the police such a detailed description, O’Malley said, that officers “had some ideas . . . on who this person might be.” Mandigo is known to the police because he has been arrested several times in recent years for sexually inappropriate behavior, according to the police.
In addition, the police found a “critical piece of evidence” at the scene that the state police crime lab was able to analyze quickly, O’Malley said. That evidence, which O’Malley declined to identify, connected Mandigo to the scene, the police said.
Mandigo was arrested yesterday about 3 p.m. at his home. O’Malley declined to provide Mandigo’s street address. He refused bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Concord’s district court.
Mandigo was most recently arrested in June by the Concord police and charged with prowling and criminal trespass. The offenses happened at 11:43 p.m. on Clarke Street, the police said. He has several other prior arrests, dating back to at least 1994.
Mandigo was arrested in 2008 and charged with violation of privacy after he put a cell phone under a woman’s dress at Target and took a picture, the police said. He was arrested in 2005 by the Hooksett police after the police said he peered into the changing room of the Kohl’s junior area. He also exposed himself in Kohl’s and masturbated, the police said at the time.
In 2004, Mandigo was charged by the Concord police with stalking, prowling and breaking into a woman’s vehicle. A police affidavit in that case said Mandigo found the break-in sexually arousing.
In 2000, Mandigo pleaded guilty to indecent exposure and criminal mischief for an incident at Filene’s department store in Salem. The details of that case were not immediately available yesterday. He was convicted in 1994 in Goffstown’s district court on a prowling charge.
