Salem officer dragged, uses Taser on suspect

The police in Salem said an officer was dragged for several feet while attempting to stop a man from driving his car.

The police said Officer Michael Massahos attempted to take 20-year-old Jordan Depina into custody on suspicion of marijuana possession during a traffic stop early yesterday.

The police said Depina fled with Massahos in pursuit, eventually returned to his vehicle and attempted to drive away as Massahos became stuck partially inside of it. Massahos was dragged for several feet before he was able to get his hand on the gear shift and put the vehicle into park.

Massahos used his Taser on Depina, but the two continued to struggle as more officers arrived.

Both were treated and released from a hospital for minor injuries. Depina was charged with assault and other offenses.
