Hesser College getting new name, new online degree

New Hampshire’s Hesser College is getting a lofty new name and adding an online business degree program.

As of July 1, the college – founded in 1900 – will be known as Mount Washington College.

The college will continue to serve students through its main campus in Manchester, and at four satellite campuses across the southern part of the state.

It’s also starting online-only associate and bachelor degree programs in business administration. Andrew Temte, interim president of the college, said barriers are particularly high for adult learners who are working full time, raising a family and balancing schedules while pursuing a degree. The college is seeking to help students overcome such challenges.

Temte said the college’s new name reflects its goal of reaching students beyond southern New Hampshire.

“It also tips our hat to our 113-year heritage here in New Hampshire by focusing on the highest peak east of the Mississippi River,” Temte said.

The college system also has a new logo comprised of overlapping diamonds with a computer symbol in the center of the right diamond that is associated with the “play” or “forward” trigger on websites. Temte said it’s meant to indicate progress and moving forward along a career path.

Annual tuition for the online business program is priced up to $6,000.

Temte said there are no plans to close any of the existing campuses in Manchester, Concord, Nashua, Portsmouth and Salem.
