The Insiders: A delightful evening of dancing and design
We at the Insider have always believed the children are our future, that we should teach them well and let them lead the way. If we could only find a way to show them all the beauty they possess inside. Well, a couple of local organizations are taking a stab at just that, and your eyes and at least eight of your other most useful senses are about to be the beneficiaries.
Concord Dance Academy will hold a variety show this afternoon at the dance school at 4:15 p.m., capping a three-week-long summer dance camp. Performers range in age from 4 to 10 years old, but not during the show in some sort of reverse Benjamin Button scenario; we presume that means there are a variety of age groups represented. There are also a variety of dance styles, including tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical, musical theater, hip-hop and contemporary. That hits all the biggies short of the Carlton Banks.

Later, dance on over to the Kimball-Jenkins Estate for the Project Fashion Camp Fashion Show at 6 p.m. The show wraps up a program in which young designers learn the ins and outs of the fashion industry, giving the students the opportunity to show off their portfolio. We offered to be guest instructors, but apparently our signature skill of turning T-shirts into sleeveless T-shirts isn’t as in demand as we suspected. Fun camp activities have included a “designer challenge” in which campers make an accessory entirely from recycled materials. Tickets should be available at the door for $3 per ticket.
