The Insiders

The Insiders: Forget the rat race – today’s all about the worm race!

Pay close attention, readers: We are about to present you with an opportunity that you may never get again. Sure, the Concord area is home to a lot of races; between the Rock ‘N’ Race, the Ironheart marathon, the track in Loudon and the presidential primary, we have more races than you can shake a starter’s pistol at. Today, however, we have a race for the ages! The Concord Public Library hosts worm races today at 1:30 p.m. That’s right, worm races. In what other sporting venture does cutting the competitor in half actually double their chances at winning?! Obviously, throngs of media will be on hand, snapping photos at breakneck (do worms have necks?) speed and breathlessly awaiting the final results, then crowding around to interview the tiny, tiny jockeys. The event is free, and, never fear, worms are supplied.

Elsewhere, master gardener Thomas Mickey lectures on America’s Romance with the English Garden at Gibson’s Bookstore at 7 p.m. Will he give up the location of his wonderful, mysterious secret garden (every master gardener has one, and they are bound by oath to divulge its location if pressed)? Only time will tell! For more information, visit gibsonsbook
