The Insiders: Take me to your leader . . . and also to the Discovery Center
Concord Insider's Ben Conant and Keith Testa (SAMANTHA GORESH / Monitor staff)
We’re feeling a little spacey today, though that’s most likely due to the fact that we spent a portion of yesterday afternoon taste-testing all four flavors of Soda Shaq, the new carbonated beverage venture from basketball great Shaquille O’Neal. And the verdict? Let’s just say that for a soda baron, he’s a pretty good basketball player. But before the encroaching sugar coma takes hold of the rest of our faculties, we’d encourage you to become a little spacey yourself and spend the evening at the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center for a Super Stellar Sci-Fi Friday Night showing of Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
Close Encounters is the movie that made mashed potatoes famous! But it was also a pioneer in the extra-terrestrial film genre and provided film aficionados a glimpse of Richard Dreyfuss, PB (pre-beard). The film is rated PG (not pre-beard), and as always children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. General admission rates apply, though members are free. Reservations are recommended, so give them a jingle at 271-7827 if you are planning to head over.
