The Insiders: Sorry Cascada, the dance floor evacuation has been canceled

Cascada may have had a hit with a 2009 track we hope you’ve never heard, “Evacuate the Dancefloor,” but we’ve done a little bit of research, and it turns out that’s bad advice. We think you should populate the dance floor instead, and let the Concord Dance Academy get you started. Also, who the heck is Cascada? A Google search reveals that they are a German Eurodance act, a super-fun sounding description that is sadly absent – at least thus far – from all staff bios at the Insider.

No matter your preferred style – jazz, ballet, tap, hip-hop, the sprinkler, white man’s overbite – you can learn it at the dance academy, which is holding an open house this afternoon from 4 to 7. Registrations are being accepted for all fall classes, which begin the week of Sept. 16, so now is the time to stop by and sample the offerings. We’re told the sprinkler and white man’s overbite are not actually sampleable offerings – but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be.

Today is the final day to accumulate some “sweat equity” at the 23rd annual Pitch-In at the Audi. Put off the manual labor at your own house for another day and perform some at a soon-to-be 109-year-old theater instead. Rewards include a light breakfast or dinner from Panera Bread and the reverence of all theatergoers for the rest of time. Splinters are accumulated at no extra charge. The Pitch-In will run today from 9 a.m. to noon and again from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Do stop by, because the volunteer maintenance keeps down the cost of operating the Audi and helps lower production and ticket prices.
