The mold was discovered while custodians were cleaning the building in preparation of staff and students starting the new school year next week.
“We are taking precautionary measures to replace areas affected by the moisture and mold, providing vigorous cleaning throughout the building and re-testing the air quality for normal outcomes,” Superintendent of Schools Tammy Davis said in a letter to staff and parents. “We are working with the industrial hygienist to control the moisture and prevent further mold growth.”
Davis told the Citizen the discovery of the mold was alarming, since previous testing done in the building in the last two years showed no evidence of it.
“Air quality tests we have conducted have come back in the normal range,” she said Wednesday.
