And here in a nutshell is the problem of the GOP: their base has swung so far to the right that they will not elect a moderate in their primary, making their rigid-conservative candidate unappealing to independents. This is not a problem in deep-red states like Texas where a Republican will win almost every time, but on a national level it's a major issue. Someone like a Scott Brown or Chris Christie will never will the presidential primary. But they're the only ones with a real shot at winning the national election. I don't know if Republicans don't get this or if they just don't care.

when was the last time a moderate didnt win the repub presidential primary??
