The Insiders: Time to prep for your Concord fantasy draft
Concord Insider's Ben Conant and Keith Testa (SAMANTHA GORESH / Monitor staff)
The countdown to the NFL season is upon us, readers, and with it, the countdown to fantasy football. Soon enough, we’ll all retreat back into our man and woman caves for the winter, holed up watching game film and obsessing over who to start in the flex position. Before that glorious hibernation, however, we’ve got to complete the perfect fantasy draft! We’ve got all the scouting reports you need to make the perfect Concord fantasy squad.
Your first-round pick should be your stalwart, Adrian Peterson-type sure shot; you need a player that is going to carry your team the whole season. Today’s first-round selection is $2 taco Tuesday at Dos Amigos. Year in and year out, $2 taco Tuesday delivers like a 2,000-yard rusher. Make it your pick by stopping in and grabbing a couple of tacos. Spike them on the ground if you must; we prefer to eat them.
In the second round, you’re still getting a pretty big contributor to your team. Hopefully, this will be a player who could have gone in the first round but slipped for whatever reason (probably because someone picked Aaron Rodgers far too early). How can you find a better selection in a fantasy draft than the “Fantasy” exhibit at the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen Gallery? This exhibit will only be around until Sept. 18, so grab it while it’s still available. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today.
As you move on through the later rounds, you’ll be taking a mix of unproven rookies and veterans who might not have much left in the tank. Your next pick today should be a seasoned vet who has performed fairly consistently throughout his career and has undergone a recent resurgence. We’re talking, of course, about director Woody Allen, whose most recent film, Blue Jasmine, is currently paying at Red River Theatres. Take a late-round flyer on this modern-day Streetcar re-imagining; it’s showing at 2:05, 5:25 and 7:45 p.m. today.
