New Hampshire services for lice removal
Don’t feel like getting your hands covered in mayonnaise or oil, then picking through every strand of hair? Or did you try that already, and find the problem didn’t go away?
There is professional help, and no, it’s not therapy.
Services for lice removal are concentrated in the southern part of New Hampshire, including NitsEnd in Plaistow.
There, former elementary school teacher Christine Cherry of Thornton helps parents deal with what she dealt with two years ago, when she spent five weeks and $100 to rid her daughter of lice.
Cherry uses a heat treatment called AireAlle, which heats the hair to 139 degrees, a temperature beyond what a louse or nit can survive. Then she applies a silicone oil treatment and thoroughly combs through the hair.
She ends up retreating about 3 percent of her clients, usually because someone else in the family’s social circle had lice and reinfested them.
She also provides full instructions for cleaning the house, and reminds people not to forget to vacuum the car.
There’s also a house-call service called Desperate Lousewives that serves Massachusetts, Maine and southern New Hampshire, which will send someone to your home to shampoo and comb to remove lice, then walk you through the housecleaning basics.
