Hopkinton police arrest man on assault charge

A Hopkinton man was arrested on a charge of simple assault in the early hours of yesterday morning, according to law enforcement officials.

The Hopkinton Police Department received a report of an assault in the parking lot behind the bank and learned the male suspect fled on foot into the wooded area behind the bank. State troopers said they received a call to assist with the search at 3:50 a.m.

The state police, along with officers from the Hopkinton and Henniker police departments, pursued Nathaniel Carr, 19, in a cornfield approximately a quarter-mile from the TD Bank on Main Street in Hopkinton. A state police trooper found Carr with the help of a K-9 unit.

Hopkinton police Chief Steven Pecora said the incident, which is being handled by his department, resulted from an altercation between two brothers.
