Quick thoughts: Patriots vs. Jets second quarter
Things turned ugly in the second quarter for both teams. New England shot itself in the foot with penalties (a false start from Nate Solder and a questionable holding on Logan Mankins), two dropped passes from Aaron Dobson, another field goal-only trip to the red zone and a missed field goal. With all the changes and injuries on offense for the Patriots, they can’t overcome mistakes and they will probably struggle for a while in the red zone. For now, things will have to run to near perfection for the offense to be effective.
Fortunately for the Pats, their defense played well/the Jets offense was even uglier. New England’s Chandler Jones came up with two sacks, Mike Buchanan had a sack of his own and Geno Smith continued to miss open receivers.
The defense will have to play like this for the Patriots to keep winning. The problem is, they won’t be facing the Jets every week. The silver lining is Tom Brady and his young receivers will be forced to work and grow together in the upcoming weeks, because there simply are no other options.
