The Insiders: Turn of the century historical figures were before their time

Stop. Drop. Shut ’em down, open up shop. Those words, of course, are part of the iconic “Ruff Ryders Anthem.” We’ll never know what Teddy Roosevelt was thinking when he penned that ode to his Spanish-American War running mates, nor will we know why the song never saw the light of day until 1998 when it was recorded by hip-hop artist DMX. Nonetheless, there is still plenty to learn about good ol’ Tedward Ruxpin Roosevelt tonight at the Pierce Manse. Join the Pierce Brigade at 7 to hear and see Charles Doleac’s illustrated presentation on Roosevelt’s efforts to end the Russo-Japanese War (also known as “World War Zero” - another thing we didn’t know about for 100 years until Brad Pitt got involved!) Find out how Gov. John McLane (of Live Free or Die Hard fame – these guys were all way before their time!) helped land New Hampshire as the site of the peace conference, learn the events that lead to Roosevelt’s Nobel Peace Prize and experience his interactions with Commodore Matthew Perry (Friends? Hello? Could this BE any crazier?). For more information, call 225-4555.
