1,000-pound obelisk stolen from Candia cemetery

The police in Candia are investigating the theft of a 1,000-pound granite obelisk taken from the top of an old family grave site.

The police said the obelisk looks like the Washington Monument and is about 6 feet tall.

WMUR reported the police said there is evidence that someone backed a truck into the Candia Village Cemetery and put outriggers into the ground to lift the obelisk from its headstone.

The police in Somersworth are also investigating the theft of granite from a cemetery in their town and believe it may be connected to the case in Candia.
