Hopkinton Fire Department to host open house
The Hopkinton Fire Department will host an open house tomorrow at its Contoocook station to display a proposal for station renovations and teach visitors about fire safety.
Fire Chief Doug Mumford said the Pine Street station will be open to visitors from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“We like people to be able to come in and see the station,” Mumford said. “We’ll have some of the stuff up for the proposal for ... the renovations to the existing station.”
Mumford said the department hopes to add a second floor and an additional bay to the Contoocook station, which is one of two stations operated by the Hopkinton Fire Department and is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Hopkinton village station is unmanned and houses one engine and one tanker, according to the town website.
Mumford does not yet know how much those renovations would cost, but Town Administrator Neal Cass said the proposal will take shape in the months leading up to the spring town meeting.
“We’ve outgrown the space that we have,” he said.
The open house will also feature children’s activities and information on fire prevention. The station is located at 9 Pine St. in Contoocook.
