A Henniker man arrested yesterday faces a felony charge of arson in connection with an October house fire.
Matthew Patenaude, 47, is being held on $50,000 cash-only bail, according to a release from the state fire marshal’s office.
Henniker fire Chief Keith Gilbert said the Oct. 25 fire began in the basement of a home on Colby Road.
“When we made entry, we discovered (the fire) extended also to the first floor,” Gilbert said. “The building sustained heavy damage.”
A Henniker firefighter also sustained a knee injury while fighting the blaze, Gilbert said. He had surgery and has not yet returned to work.
The fire department, the Henniker police department and the state fire marshal’s office have all been part of the investigation. Gilbert could not comment further on what led to Patendaude’s arrest.
