Weare Police Department to host holiday open house

The Weare Police Department will host a holiday open house tomorrow evening at the police station from 6 to 9 p.m.

Refreshments will be served, and there will be face painting, coloring contests and photos with Santa Claus. Donations for Toys For Tots will also be accepted during the open house.

Police Chief John Velleca said the open house is a chance for people in Weare to meet the members of the local department.

“Really, the highlight of the open house is to give the residents of our community the chance to come in and be a part of the police department,” Velleca said.

Velleca joined the Weare department only last month, so the open house is also a chance for residents to meet the chief. So far, he said, local people have offered their help in putting on the open house.

“We’ve gotten a lot of volunteers, a lot of participation from the community,” he said.

The open house will be at the police headquarters, located at 114 North Stark Highway in Weare.
