Ice skating at White Park opens for the season

The ice at White Park is now open for skaters, but the skate house for rentals is not.

The pond and adjacent hockey rink opened for the season yesterday, and both are free of charge.

But the park’s rental skates are in poor condition, said DJ Sartwell of the Parks and Recreation department, and the skate house will remain closed for now.

“I don’t know if it’s going to open at all this season. . . . It’s bring-your-own skates,” Sartwell said.

Park visitors can or a sign outside the pond on Washington Street throughout the winter to make sure the ice is safe for skating, Sartwell said.

Public skating is also open Monday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Everett Arena. The Loudon Road rink is also open to the public Sunday afternoons from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Admission at the arena is $5 and skate rentals are available for an additional $5.

Been skating since early December this year. Supposed to be -10F New Years day...Probably be skating into April...December was a record setter for cold.
