CCSNH job portal to link employers, job seekers
A new online job-finding service gaining traction at NHTI will be rolled out at five more community colleges this fall.
Earlier this month, NHTI launched a free job portal for students, alumni and community members. The new service has resume-building tips and links employers and job seekers in the Community College System of New Hampshire.
The plan is to expand the colleges’ job-posting portals to create a one-stop resource for job seekers and employers, said CCSNH spokeswoman Shannon Reid. This means students at Lakes Region Community College would be able to log on and search for jobs posted not only in their area, but also in other parts of the state.
NHTI’s portal is gaining momentum, attracting more users and posting more than 20 new jobs a week, school officials said.
“It’s going to make it so much easier,” said Susan Posluszny, academic career and transfer adviser at NHTI. “Instead of posting to one individual school, they will be able to post systemwide.”
September marks the soft launch of the program, which schools will revise and help evolve, Reid said.
NHTI long relied on a bank where local employers posted jobs for students to browse, but employers could only post to a local job board. Also, students could only search jobs posted to their school’s board. The new system will expand the local board into a statewide one.
“This should be particularly beneficial for employers that are regional, have more than one location or would like to cast a statewide net,” Reid said. It will create links to jobs that align with the program offerings at the community colleges and where schools have graduates with the skills, academic major and background needed by employers, she said.
It will also provide a more comprehensive career management system. Resources like Resume Builder will help with creating professional resumes, while the Portfolio Central feature will help users assemble an online portfolio of their work for employers to view. Users will also find an extensive library of podcasts, articles, videos and newsletters to aid in the job search and offer career advice.
The portal also provides new tools to manage and support internships, co-ops and other forms of workplace learning that also incorporate academics. Students and employers will be able to post and view internships through this portal and faculty can use it to track and manage students’ workplace learning experiences.
Before this, “we had no way of tracking student usage and there really wasn’t a student registration part of the process. We really never had a sense of who was viewing the postings,” Posluszny said.
More than 100 employers have already contacted NHTI about the portal, and more than 100 students have logged on to use it.
“We’ve always had a good a history having a fair number of employers contacting us on a daily basis,” Posluszny said. “We are definitely seeing more employers reaching out to us.”
