One fatality reported in four-car crash on Clinton Street
A four-car crash yesterday afternoon near the intersection of Clinton and South Fruit Streets resulted in one fatality, the police said.
The police believe the accident resulted from a rear-end collision that produced a chain reaction, but the investigation into the cause is ongoing. The four cars were traveling westbound on Clinton Street when the accident occurred at about 4:45 p.m.
Two people were taken to Concord Hospital from the scene. Ashleigh List, 29, of Concord, died later as a result of the injuries, and the other person was treated and released from the hospital.
There were two children in the backseat of List’s vehicle at the time of the accident. They were wearing seatbelts and were uninjured in the crash.
It appears List was driving the car that spurred the rear-end collision, said Lt. Timothy O’Malley, but the police are still investigating. Accident reconstruction is underway and will help determine how fast the cars were traveling at the time of the impact.
Neither List or the other injured person needed to be extracted from their cars at the scene, and the injuries did not initially appear to be serious, O’Malley said.
At the scene, it did not appear that alcohol or other substances played a role in the accident, but the police are continuing to investigate.
This is the second fatal accident to occur on Clinton Street in the past two months. In October, a two-car crash near the intersection with Iron Works Road killed 31-year-old Jesse Wolfe and 7-year-old Kyara Mailhot.
The police are asking witnesses or anyone with information about the crash to contact them at (603) 225-8600.
