NEC survey shows strong support for gun control in N.H.
A large majority of New Hampshire voters support universal background checks for gun purchases and a ban on assault-style weapons, according to a new poll from New England College.
Some 72 percent of registered voters say they support banning assault weapons in the state, versus 24 percent who oppose a ban. A full 88 percent said they support universal background checks, with only 10 percent opposed.
The poll, taken Monday and Tuesday of 656 registered voters, had a margin of error of 3.82 percent, according to the college.
Ben Tafoya, NEC’s poll director, said the poll showed “surprisingly strong support for these gun control moves” among Granite State voters.
“It is difficult to imagine the voting public has a great consensus on anything than they show on this issue,” he said in a news release yesterday.
The Henniker college started its polling unit last fall.
