Poll: Northern Pass support drops slightly

Support for Northern Pass has dipped slightly in the last year among those who know about the project, from 42 percent to 35 percent, according to the latest WMUR Granite State Poll.

Pollsters from the University of New Hampshire Survey Center questioned 581 people earlier this month about their familiarity with Northern Pass and their feelings about the proposed hydro-power project from Canada through New Hampshire.

Despite nearly two years of publicity about the project, just over half, 57 percent, of those questioned said they are somewhat or very familiar with the project. That’s a slight increase over last year.

The project enjoys the strongest support along the Massachusetts border (47 percent) followed by the Seacoast (38 percent). Neither location would host the proposed transmission lines.

The greatest opposition (52 percent) comes from Northern New Hampshire, where Northern Pass is trying to buy land to clear a new 40-mile corridor for the proposed transmission lines.
