Sewalls Falls Bridge to close for tree removal

The Sewalls Falls Bridge will close for three days next week while the city removes trees in the area.

Crews must park a truck on the bridge over the Merrimack River to remove large pine trees, said Chip Chesley, director of the General Services Department.

“They’re dying,” Chesley said of the trees that will be removed on the west side of the bridge and north of the approach to the bridge.

The work is unrelated to a brief bridge closure last week, Chesley said. On Monday, crews repaired a plate on the steel truss bridge and repaired potholes in the nearby roadway.

The bridge will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday and Wednesday between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

As a public service the article should have included where "all" those cars must now go to get across the river - that would be a mile north or a mile south. Quite the inconvenience. With all the bridges in need of repair, the low volume of traffic should have kept this one off the list to replace.
