Concord Farmers Market to open at Steeplegate Mall

The Heights will have its own farmers market this summer.

The organization that runs the market in downtown Concord will open a market in the Steeplegate Mall parking lot on Wednesday afternoons.

Wayne Hall, president of the Concord Farmers Market, said the market will include many of the same vendors who sell products downtown on Saturday mornings.

“It’s going to be primarily the same vendors as the Saturday market, and hopefully just trying to get the fresh vegetables and the good stuff to the people of a different demographic up there,” he said.

Hall said the organization decided to open another market on the Heights after hearing that some residents of the Havenwood-Heritage Heights retirement community had a hard time making it to the Saturday market. Concord Area Transit buses don’t run on Saturdays, which Hall said made it difficult for some Concord residents to access the downtown market.

“I think it’s going to open the market up to just a whole new crowd,” he said.

The market will be held in the mall’s parking lot off Loudon Road, between Applebee’s and Sears.

At least 15 of the Concord Farmers Market’s 40 vendors will participate in the market on the Heights, Hall said. He is still hearing back from vendors this week, and expects that number to grow.

The market will run on Wednesday afternoons from 3 to 7 p.m., beginning June 5. It will continue through Oct. 30 if weather permits, Hall said.

The Saturday morning market on Capitol Street will begin June 1.
