4:30 p.m.: The police have arrested a 42-year-old Concord man on charges he broke into a Concord home overnight and touched an 11-year-old girl while she was sleeping.
David Mandigo, whose address was not released, is charged with burglary and felonious sexual assault. Lt. Timothy O’Malley said he could not elaborate on the sexual assault charges but said the girl did not suffer a physical injury. The police also believe she was asleep during the incident.
The police arrested Mandigo at his home without incident around 3 p.m.
The police allege Mandigo broke into a North State Street home around 3:45 a.m. The girl’s mother awoke after hearing footsteps, the police said. When she got up to investigate, she found Mandigo in her daughter’s bedroom, the police said. Mandigo fled on foot.
O’Malley said the mother’s detailed description of the suspect helped police identify Mandigo by yesterday afternoon. He said the police also confiscated a piece of evidence from the scene that the state police crime lab was able to analyze quickly and link to Mandigo. O’Malley said he could not identify the evidence.
2:12 p.m.: The police have offered a more detailed description of the man they say a Concord woman found inside her 11-year-old daughter’s bedroom early this morning.
The man is described as between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall, of medium build with gray hair that is close cut or possibly balding. The police said he was wearing dark, possibly athletic, pants that had a white stripe on the legs and a green shirt or sweatshirt.
11:30 a.m.: A Concord woman awoke inside her North State Street home at 3:45 a.m. to find a man in her 11-year-old daughter’s bedroom, the police said late this morning.
The police are investigating the incident as a burglary and possible assault, although they said there is no indication the girl sustained an injury. The girl was sleeping at the time of the incident, the police said.
Investigators are asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating the man. He is described as a short, white and possibly bald or balding, the police said.
The man fled the home, which is near the intersection of North State and Beacon streets, when the woman confronted him, the police said.
The Concord police said they are actively investigating this matter and asked members of the public who witnessed any recent suspicious activity in the area to contact them at 225-8600.
The police anticipate releasing more information as thew investigation develops, said Lt. Timothy O’Malley.
