Hiker finds missing teen atop Green Mountain

Authorities said it was a local hiker who found an 18-year-old woman atop a mountain, two days after she walked away from a neurological rehabilitation center.

New Hampshire Fish and Game officers said they got a call that Joelle Ferstenberg was found about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday near the summit of Green Mountain. Conservation Officer Mike Matson told WMWV radio one big clue came from a hunter who had reported a photo from his game camera on Green Mountain showed Ferstenberg passing by it Sunday.

Authorities said she walked away from Lakeview NeuroRehabilitation Center in Effingham on Sunday afternoon. The mountain is in Effingham, about two miles away from Lakeview. It has an elevation of 1,907 feet. Crews said the cold rain over Monday night and throughout Tuesday made efforts difficult for searchers, who faced hiking over steep terrain and through waist-high bogs.

Fish and Game conservation officers, the New England K-9 Search and Rescue and a state police helicopter searched for her, in addition to volunteers.

Authorities said Ferstenberg was treated for mild hypothermia and carried off the mountain by rescuers and was taken to a hospital for evaluation. She’s expected to be okay.

When she left Sunday, Ferstenberg was wearing pajamas and only socks on her feet. She had been wearing a monitoring device, but rescuers were not able to detect its signal.

Truck lands on top of abutment at toll booth

The police said a pickup crashed into a concrete barrier at the Hampton Toll Plaza, hitting the roof of the toll booth and coming to rest wedged between the barrier and a tractor trailer truck.

The Hampton Fire Department stabilized the Ford Ranger pickup before the driver was removed from the vehicle and taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Fosters Daily Democrat reported that the driver, 43-year-old Christopher Desjardins of Wells, Maine, suffered minor injuries yesterday morning.
