Shea-Porter announces opposition to military strikes against Syria

U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter said yesterday she opposes the United States taking military action in Syria.

The congresswoman said that while she condemns President Bashar al-Assad’s use of chemical weapons in his country, as is alleged by the U.S., she doesn’t “see at this time how a military air strike against Syria will fix this,” she said in a press release.

“If the United States launches a sustained and heavy attack, we run the risk of swapping Assad out for some equally ruthless group. If we launch a smaller, targeted attack, we run the risk of emboldening President Assad and causing more casualties,” Shea-Porter said. “I am not against all war, but in order to justify this act, there has to be a threat to national security, a strong strategy, and a good possibility of success.”

Shea-Porter was the first of New Hampshire’s delegation to announce her opposition to the possible military strike in Syria. Over the weekend, President Obama stepped back from ordering a strike under his own authority and announced he would seek congressional approval. Earlier yesterday, President Obama won House Speaker John Boehner’s backing.

Shea-Porter got one right, thank you! Sarah Palin got it right: "Let Allah sort it out". 12th century mindset with modern weapons is like giving a caveman a machine gun......both sides are dangerous and terrible human beings.

He who drew a line in the sand now has agreed to let Congress decide. Interesting. Strikes me as a way out for him, politically a smart move to make. I think a majority of Americans are against any strikes. They will not accomplish anything. What in God's name are we doing there at all? Already Iraq is unraveling, as is Afghanistan. Just as anyone who can think knew they would unravel. Back to the hate and violence. Nation-building and democracy are never going to work there. They don't want peace. They have been happily slaughtering eachother for thousands of years, in the name of Allah, and they will still be at it long after all of us who exchange opinions here are dust. In the name of Allah. I say we do nothing, and start learning that our idealism isn't always welcomed.

A stopped clock is right twice a day.

I agree stay out take care of Americans at home

IN THE MIDDLE is another democrat....... president Obama does not have an ounce of leadership in his body and in essence by his action vote "present" again. The low information democrat voter elected a politician when the nation and world needed a leader
