Margaritas to hold fundraiser in honor of Loudon baby
Margaritas Mexican Restaurant in Concord will donate 15 percent of proceeds tomorrow to Families of SMA, an organization supporting people suffering from spinal muscular atrophy. The fundraiser is in honor of Brooklyn Bouchard, a Loudon baby who died in March from the disease.
Bouchard died two days before her six-month birthday, and tomorrow would have been her first birthday.
“Each day is a struggle, especially as Sept. 11 approaches, knowing I should have a crawling/walking 1-year-old and I don’t,” Brooklyn’s mother, Stephanie, said in an email. “Instead of a first birthday that we should be planning, we’re planning a fundraiser in her name.”
Spinal muscular atrophy is a motor neuron disease that causes the muscles to rapidly deteriorate, taking away the ability to perform basic functions such as breathing and swallowing. Families of SMA provides information and support to parents like the Bouchards and supports research for a cure.
Patrons at Margaritas tomorrow must say they are there in support of Brooklyn, and 15 percent of their bill will go toward the group.
