Concord police identify man who died in car accident

The Concord police yesterday identified the 72-year-old man who died Monday in a fatal car accident as Stephen Blankenship of Contoocook.

Blankenship was found unconscious in a silver Ford Explorer on Monday after apparently veering off Horse Hill Road and smashing into a tree. Emergency crews, responding to the accident about 11:15 a.m., transported Blankenship to Concord Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. No other vehicles or people were involved in the incident, the police said.

Authorities said they are still investigating the cause of the crash, and that there are no initial indications Blankenship was driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time.

Anyone with information about the accident can contact the Concord police at 225-8600 or call the regional crimeline at 226-3100.
