Monarchs rally for 3-2 win over Providence Bruins
Brandon Kozun and Andrew Bodnarchuk each had a goal and an assist as the Manchester Monarchs (2-0-0-1) came back from a two-goal deficit to claim a 3-2 shootout win on the road over the Providence Bruins (1-1-0-1) last night.
Manchester goalie Martin Jones (24 saves) stopped three of the four shots he saw in the shootout, while Monarchs Tyler Toffoli, Jordan Weal and Andy Andreoff all beat Providence netminder Niklas Svedberg (32 saves).
After a scoreless first period, Providence got second-period goals from Nick Johnson and Jared Knight. Bodnarchuk, a defenseman, cut that lead in half at 5:10 of the third period on an assist from Kozun, who evened the game with 2:19 left in regulation on assists from Bodnarchuk and Weal.
The Monarchs are back in action tonight when they travel to Connecticut to face the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
