City council candidate says campaign signs were vandalized

Over the weekend, Dennis Soucy has found his city council campaign signs ripped out of the ground or torn in half, including the sign in his own front yard.

The Ward 8 candidate for Concord City Council has contacted the police about the vandalism, which he said ruined 10 of his 35 signs. He was able to repair two of the damaged signs. But he does not blame his opponents: Gail Matson and incumbent Councilor Dick Patten.

“Let’s get that clear right off the bat – I know it ain’t them,” Soucy said.

The damaged signs had been placed on private property or city rights of way on Airport Road, Pembroke Road and Regional Drive, Soucy said.

Concord police Lt. Timothy O’Malley said officers will watch for further campaign sign vandalism. He said he was not aware of similar reports from any other candidates.

“I’m not aware of it being a chronic problem right now, but our officers have been advised to keep an eye out for it,” O’Malley said.
