Dollar General plans store in Penacook

Dollar General is hoping to build a new store on Fisherville Road, making it the road’s third discount store.

The Dollar General store would be built at 197-207 Fisherville Road, just south of C.C. Tomatoes Restaurant, according to planning board documents.

There is already a Family Dollar store in a shopping plaza on the other side of Fisherville Road and a Deep Discounts store at Thirty Pines, also on Fisherville Road.

Zaremba Group, which develops Dollar General stores, will go before the Concord Planning Board this month for a public hearing and approval.

If approved, the company has said it would purchase the property from Thomas Cheney, according to Steve Henninger, assistant city planner.

The property includes three lots, which Henninger said would be rearranged into two properties: a 1.83-acre lot for the proposed Dollar General and a roughly 3-acre lot that would be used for future development.

“Right now there’s nothing left on the three lots except for one house and (a) garage,” Henninger said.

The three properties previously each had a house, Henninger said, but two of the homes have already been demolished.

The proposed Dollar General store would be 9,240 square feet and would have a parking lot with 37 parking spaces, Henninger said.

Jaclyn Dees, a communications specialist for Dollar General, said yesterday that the company is in its “due diligence” phase

“So that means that Dollar General is looking to build a store there, but we haven’t guaranteed that we’re going to be coming in,” he said.

Dollar General has six stores in New Hampshire, according to the company’s website, in Epsom, Hillsboro, Tilton, Nashua, Whitefield and Newport.

Henninger said the Concord Planning Board will review the company’s application and hold a public hearing at its Nov. 20 meeting.
