Renewal an option for canceled N.H. insurance plans
About 22,000 New Hampshire residents have been notified that their individual health insurance plans are being discontinued because they don’t comply with the federal health care overhaul law, but they can keep their benefits for another year if they renew early.
Paula Rogers of Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Hampshire told lawmakers yesterday that customers who renew by Nov. 15 can extend their coverage until Dec. 1, 2014. However, tax credits that act like a discount on premiums are only available for those purchasing new plans through the online insurance market created by the federal law.
Because of the problems with the federal HealthCare.gov site, Rogers said Anthem can’t say how many people have purchased plans in New Hampshire since enrollment opened Oct. 1.
