Police: Barnstead bombs result of teen prank

The Barnstead police plan to issue petitions in the state’s family court system against three teens they say detonated three bombs in town last month.

The police will not identify the teens because they are under 18 years old. Two are 14 and one is 15, officials said.

The bombs were “an isolated incident as a result of a juvenile prank, and there is no further danger to the public,” according to a press release from the Barnstead Police Department.

The apparently homemade explosives were discovered in the area of Halfmoon Bay Drive and Dalton Road, near the south shore of Halfmoon Lake. Each of the bombs had been detonated by the time officers arrived.

Barnstead police Sgt. Joseph McDowell previously described the bombs as “clearly designed to use shrapnel to inflict a lot of harm on people.”

Bombs designed to inflict a lot of harm on people in no way can be conceived as prank.
