Man accused of Claremont break-in, taking $1, gift card
A Newport man has been accused of breaking into the home of a disabled man, stealing a dollar and a gift card before getting arrested.
Eric Richmond of Newport was arrested about 3 a.m. Tuesday when the police responding to the break-in at a Claremont apartment house found him in the halls of the building. Bail for the 23-year-old Richmond was set at $10,000; he did not have a lawyer.
The Eagle Times reported Richmond told the police he went to the building to look for an open apartment because he needed money for cigarettes. The police said he was carrying a knife.
