Report to Readers: New Hampshire’s Civil War

If you’re a New Hampshire history buff or a Civil War buff or a fan of good detective stories, you won’t want to miss a fun event next week.
The Monitor and the New Hampshire Historical Society are sponsoring a lecture and book launch by former Monitor editor Mike Pride, who will discuss his new volume, Our War: Days and Events in the Fight for the Union.
Pride’s book is a remarkably human look at the Civil War through the eyes of New Hampshire soldiers, nurses, chaplains, deserters, wives of soldiers, girlfriends of soldiers, mothers of soldiers, politicians, journalists and more – 50 dramatic individual stories in all. They’re wonderful to read, and hearing Pride talk about the stories behind the stories (how the heck did he find them?) is equally fun.
The event will be held Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. at the New Hampshire Historical Society, 30 Park St., Concord. It’s free and open to the public. We’ll have refreshments and a chance to buy books following the talk.
In the past few weeks, the Monitor has published several pieces about the new book.
