Annual tree lighting

to be held Wednesday

The annual tree lighting, sponsored by the Penacook Village Association, will be held Wednesday at 6 p.m. in Boudreau Square in the center of Penacook Village. There will be caroling and a performance by the Penacook Elementary School chorus. For more information, visit penacook.org.

∎ Penacook Boy Scout Troop 83 will hold an open house Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. in Fellowship Hall at the United Church of Penacook. Boys age 11-17 are eligible to join Boy Scouts. Weekly meetings are held Tuesday nights at 7 p.m. For more information, call Heather Chandler at 568-1968.

∎ The Penacook Branch Library’s adult book club recently held their first meeting and selected Maine by J. Courtney Sullivan as their first book. Anyone interested in this book is welcome to attend the discussion Wednesday at 7 p.m. December’s book is The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick.

∎ The historical society will present “Christmas in Penacook” Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Rolfe Homestead. Santa will be there for pictures, and there will be craft tables for children.

∎ The community center is holding a holiday raffle to benefit their programs. You can purchase tickets for a chance to win a new IPad mini. You can purchase tickets now at the community center office at 76 Community Drive or call 753-9700. Tickets are one for $5 or five for $20. The drawing will be held Dec. 10.

Gift and craft fair

to be held Saturday

The Children’s Place at 27 Burns Ave. will host a gift and craft fair Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $1, free for children. There will a professional photographer to take family holiday portraits.

∎ The East Concord Garden Club hopes you have noticed the Christmas tree placed to delight passers-by once again, gracing Pecker Memorial Park, located at the intersection of Shaker and Mountain Roads and Cemetery Street. Thanks go to member Esther Murray and husband Bill for donating the tree and to member Mabel Wheeler and husband, Steve, son, Stephen and granddaughters for securing and decorating. The club will host a tree lighting ceremony today at 4:30 p.m. East concord residents, friends and families are invited to join members at the park for a fun late afternoon before the lights are electrified. Brittany and Brooke Wheeler will lead the gathering in singing seasonal favorites. A special thanks goes out to Cindy and John Sanborn who, once again, are providing the power for the tree.

∎  Immanuel Community Church will present The Night of Las Posadas, the musical adaptation of Tomie dePaola’s book of the same name, Dec. 2 at 1 p.m. Refreshments and discussion will follow the free, forty-five minute performance.

∎ The Concord Grange 322 will meet tomorrow at 7 p.m. in the theater at Havenwood Retirement Center, 33 Christian Ave. The Grange will be purchasing toys for six children through the Salvation Army Star program. Senior high group

to baby-sit children

Want to get some Christmas shopping done without your kiddos tagging along? Let the South Congregational senior high youth group take care of your children for a few hours Dec. 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The seniors will offer a variety of activities from making Christmas gifts to decorating cookies. The cost is $10 per child and lunch will be provided. Be sure to reserve your spot by Dec. 10 by emailing anyhan@southchurchconcord.org. All proceeds will benefit the group’s trip to New Orleans.

∎ Bishop Brady’s holiday artisan craft fair will be held Dec. 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bishop Brady High School, 25 Columbus Ave. There will be more than 60 juried artisans featuring League of New Hampshire Craftsmen and New Hampshire Made. The event will also include a special “kid’s fair” shopping area hosted by the Interact Club with cookie decorating, face painting and a visit from Santa.

∎ Concord TV will air the next episode of “On the Beat” with the Concord Police Department Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. on Channel 17. Many segments will be shown, including an interview with John “CIMO” Cimikoski and Jonathan Clay from the Boys and Girls Club to highlight its upcoming television auction scheduled for Dec. 8 from 1 to 11 p.m.
