DR. SARA CAIRNS earned the 2012 State of New Hampshire Award from the New England Wild Flower Society. The award is given to an individual or organization of a New England state for making significant contributions to the preservation of native plants. Cairns was selected for her work as data manager for the New Hampshire Natural Heritage Bureau where she manages the recovery plan for federally listed species in New Hampshire.
ANCA MURESAN earned the Lakes Region Tourism Association scholarship. She is a Lakes Region Community College restaurant management honor student. The Mildred A. Beach Hospitality scholarship is given annually to a student who demonstrates leadership and outstanding academic performance in preparation for entrance into the hospitality industry.
JUSTIN HOLLAND, Army private and son of Ray and Katie Holland, graduated from basic combat training at Ft. Leonward Wood, Mo., and is now at Ft. Sill, Okla. for his advanced individual training. He is scheduled to graduate this month.
MATT BROWN, martial arts instructor and owner of Penacook School of Martial Arts, was promoted to the rank of 9th Degree Black Belt by martial arts teacher George Dillman, considered one of the living legends of the martial arts.
MAURICE BAXTER JR., Army National Guard private first class and son of Cecille Baxter, graduated from basic training and advanced individual training at One Station Unit Training at Fort Leonard Wood in Waynesville, Mo.
BRANDON HEIMLICH and six other members of the Winnisquam FFA Chapter tested their knowledge of parliamentary law at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis in October. The Parliamentary Procedure Team won a bronze emblem for New Hampshire.
