ZONTA award

Young women age 16 to 19 living or studying in the Concord area are invited to apply for the 2013 Young Women in Public Affairs award supported by the ZONTA Club of Concord and distributed by local high school guidance departments. Child screening

The school districts of Pembroke, Allenstown, Chichester, Deerfield and Epsom will offer a free child screening for children under the age of 6 on Jan. 23 at the Deerfield Community School, 66 North Road. The screening will include speech, vision, hearing, motor and learning skills. To make an appointment, call Sharon Lewis at 463-7422, ext. 108. The snow date is Jan 30. Unsung heroes

The deadline to nominate Citizen Heroes online for the 2013 Medal of Honor sponsored Citizens Before Self is tomorrow at midnight. The Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation is searching nationwide for unsung citizen heroes who have done extraordinary deeds such as saving lives in a single heroic act or providing ongoing selfless service to their fellow citizens through a series of acts. Enter online at csbsh.org.


Dogs galore!

“Bark in the Park: Canines for K-9” will be held May 11 at 10 a.m. at White Park in Concord. This event will be presented by the Concord Public Safety Foundation, with proceeds to benefit a future K-9 unit at the Concord Police Department. The event will have programming, demonstrations, competitions and educational offerings, plus opportunities for family dogs to become part of the action as they compete in a costume parade, best trick competition, best features dog show and obedience.
