Savings cut into Pittsfield school budget
The proposed budget for the Pittsfield School District is $9,414,573, which is lower than last year’s budget by $175,644, or about 2 percent. This would decrease the tax rate by about 47 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value. Superintendent John Freeman said the decreases came from savings out of district placements for special education students.
∎ A new teachers contract would create a raise of $114,872 in the 2014-2015 school year and roughly $100,000 in raises in each of the following two years. This small increase to the tax rate would be offset by the budget decreases.
∎ Contested elections: None.
∎ The meeting will be held March 13 at 7 p.m. in the Pittsfield Elementary School.
