It’s the Fourth of July – a day to relax, soak up some rays and chow down on plenty of delicious grilled meats and other foods that you’re not typically allowed to stuff your face with.

And what better way to cap of a day of celebration than to add the local fireworks show to your must-do list on this fine midsummer holiday. Really, what’s the Fourth of July without some loud and colorful explosions? Skipping it would be like not opening a single present on Christmas or going to bed at 9 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.

So make your way to Memorial Field for an evening of fun, music and sky illuminations. The festivities begin at 4 p.m. with a free American Legion baseball game, which also happens to be the time when food vendors open, just in case you didn’t eat enough at the family barbecue. WJYY and the Wolfe will broadcast live at 5 p.m. and the Nevers’ Band takes the stage at 7:30. Once the sun sets and darkness ensues, that’s when things get real with a fireworks show that includes $20,000 in explody things. And for the first time, the fireworks will actually be set off at Memorial Field.

The event is free, but $2 donations are sought to help pay for next year’s show. For weather updates, check concordparksandrec.com.
