N.H. close to selling old community college campus in Stratham for $2.75 million

The state is close to selling the former Great Bay Community College campus in Stratham to Juliet Marine Systems, a Portsmouth-based defense contractor.

The 90-acre site and its 100,000 square foot building would be sold to the company for $2.75 million. The Community College System of New Hampshire would finance the deal and repay the sale price to the state in three installments over the next three years.

The Legislature’s Long Range Capital Planning and Utilization Committee approved the deal yesterday on a unanimous voice vote. It still must be approved by the Executive Council.

Gregory Sancoff, Juliet’s president and chief executive officer, told the committee the company’s products include systems to defend ships from improvised explosive devices. It now has 15 employees in Portsmouth and at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, he said, and plans to move to Stratham and expand to more than 200 workers within 36 months.

Great Bay’s Stratham campus closed in 2009.
