Laconia murder suspect’s sister releases statement

Murder suspect’s sister releases statement

The sister of murder suspect Kasey Riley issued a statement late Monday night through the state chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Here is what she said:

I would like to offer my sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to the March family. I can only imagine the loss and grief you are feeling right now and my thoughts and prayers are with you.

I am Kasey Riley’s sister and he is being arraigned this morning in the death of Zachary March. This is truly a tragic and complex situation. My brother has struggled with mental illness his entire life. He has been in and out of hospitals for the past 19 years due to his mental illness. He has worked with many agencies that specialize in mental illness. Last Tuesday he sought help for himself at Lakes Region General Hospital. There were no beds available at NH State Hospital so he waited at Lakes Region General Hospital. He was transported to NH State Hospital Thursday afternoon. I went to visit him around 4:30 on Thursday and was concerned that my brother appeared disheveled. He was released from NH State Hospital Friday. I do not know the circumstances for why he was released. I spoke with him several times over the weekend, he did not appear to be agitated or upset. There was no indication that he was dangerous or was going to hurt anyone. I spoke to him at 9 pm Sunday evening and he told me he had a good day at the beach and was headed home. I love my brother very much. No matter what he has done, that will never change.

I plead with the State of NH to increase funding and staff for mental health. I pray for every family who is affected by mental illness that they are blessed with strength and patience to love and nurture their family members who suffer.

Neither I nor my family wishes to make any further comments and ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time.
