The Insiders: Great Scott, it’s the return of Midsummer Night Magic
e_SSLqTis the season for parades. We’ve just had Memorial Day parades galore, July 4 parades are right around the corner and of course there’s the Pedestrians in the Crosswalk parade that you see every 12 feet on Main Street seven days a week. But all of those parades are sorely lacking in the symphony of kazoos department.
Enter Midsummer Night Magic, a community-centric evening that returns to downtown for a second go-round tonight beginning at 5, complete with a parade called the Creative Concord Caravan featuring a kazoophony (performed by the Concord Community Music School) and dogs dressed in silly costumes, an outdoor showing of Back to the Future and an aerial display featuring a dancer suspended from the gate in Eagle Square by a vibrantly colored silk rope. The latter will be performed legally and before last call, just to be clear.
So fuel up the ol’ flux capacitor and zip downtown for a night of family fun. Just be careful parking the DeLorean – parking spaces for time machines were among the final items nixed from the Complete Streets downtown redesign (that’s just shortsighted planning, if you ask us).
The event also includes Burundian drummers, Artsfest hula hoopers and Tribal Zoe belly dancers. The showing of Back to the Future will take place in Eagle Square at dusk, about 9 p.m.
