Police: Homeless man found dead in Concord camp

A 52-year-old homeless man was found dead yesterday morning in a wooded area near the Interstate 393 overpass in Concord, according to state police.

Authorities found the man, identified as John Tonkin, in a homeless camp off Fort Eddy Road after friends living in the camp reported that he was unresponsive. Tonkin’s last known address is in Pembroke.

It’s unclear how Tonkin died, though officials said yesterday it was not considered suspicious at the time. An autopsy is scheduled for today.

Anyone with information regarding Tonkin or the incident is asked to contact the state at 223-4381.
