Sewalls Falls Bridge in Concord only open to passenger cars
The Sewalls Falls Bridge is now only open to passenger vehicles.
The bridge’s weight limit has been reduced to 3 tons. City Engineer Ed Roberge told the city council last month that the steel bridge over the Merrimack River is in deteriorating condition. It is slated for replacement, but the city is still seeking the necessary approvals from the federal government to tear down the nearly 100-year-old structure.
“This restriction was implemented to protect the traveling public, pending the replacement of the bridge which is anticipated for 2015-2016,” City Manager Tom Aspell wrote in his newsletter last week.
